2019 Contraban Syrah

With exacting standards for the Authentic Wine Company’s WineOnTheRocks label, we never use more than 15% of the barrels, guaranteeing that only the best of the best fruit ends up in the bottle.

The 2019 Syrah was made with fruit from the Chapelle and Hubli family vineyards, in Salgesch. The first vintage was 2017. This vintage saw 30% whole bunches in the ferment. It offers notes of grey dirt, a bit of blood, salted heirloom tomato and plum. This is concentrated, compacted, lush, dense and muscular, with notes of cinnamon and licorice. There’s a lot going on, but if you take the time (without doing the crime), a pattern emerges and the mineralic complexity becomes obvious for all to see. Within the fine and velvet tannic frame, there are white pepper and lavender notes, exotic spice and layers of black fruits.

At first glance, the wokers and the rash will overlook this for being singularly muscular and full-bodied, but like all the best IYKYK*
